Our mission
Enculture Press provides electronic publishing to scholars, writers, and artists. We are dedicated to finding new genres of writing, new avenues to share research, and new ways to reach a broader public.
Electronic publishing and digital platforms offer exciting opportunities to share intellectual and creative efforts with wide audiences. Enculture Press seeks to be at the forefront of this change, experimenting constantly and bringing more and more people into intellectual conversations, wherever they are in the world.
We combine innovation and quality in our dedication to the dissemination of knowledge and creativity, and are guided by the principles of shared enterprise and sustainable access in our work with authors.
We seek to shift the economics of publishing, providing compelling, lower-cost publications to the public while also compensating academic writers better for what they do. Some of our publications are Open Access: free to anyone, anywhere, with the goal of reaching the broadest possible public. Other publications are low cost, to assure that authors receive better compensation than they would through other publishing avenues.
Enculture Press is open to working with authors in all topic areas, with emphases in anthropology, neuroscience, culture, evolution, cognitive science, human variation, science writing, long-form journalism, short fiction, and creative nonfiction that addresses both practical and humanist arenas.
Enculture Press offers a platform for quality content to reach diverse audiences. We are particularly interested in works that can reach a wide audience and that successfully meld academic ideas with effective writing. We also seek publications that are useful and flexible for teachers. We encourage authors to develop the use of media and digital links to maximize the impact of their work.
Enculture Press was founded by Greg Downey and Daniel Lende in 2013, and operates in the United States and Australia.
